"Attention, Safeway Shoppers..."

What a difference time and experience can make. I shot this mossy grocery cart in a slough in back of Safeway in Coos Bay, Oregon a couple of years ago. I've always loved the shot and stuck it in my archives. I just rediscovered it, and looking at it with knowledge gained from two or so years of photo editing experience I realized it was quite dull.

So I grabbed my handy, dandy photo editing tools and played with it some more and I couldn't believe the difference it made.

Then I had to try a black and white version.

Which do you prefer?

  2. I believe I like the b&w best because for me the color takes away from the impact of the cart, the trunk, all the elements of the photo.

  4. B&W as a composition without a shadow of doubt....though the moss in the second one is great!!!
and a great find, Faye!!! such little finds are what make a photographer's day, eh!!! :)

  5. I hate to stray from the crowd response, but I almost like the original shot the best. The second is obviously more dramatic and the b&w is of course a great effect, but I like to see things as they look naturally. It doesn't look bad at all, and the object is still unique enough to be a great shot.

(Imagine my embarrassment if the original was edited as well...) he says to himself.

  6. I rather like the black and white - the mesh looking reflection just thrills my eye.

  7. But that's what learning is all about! I think I prefer the middle shot; it looks more natural.

  8. Interesting! I like them all!

Perhaps if I really had to choose I would take the B&W, great contrast!

  9. Faye,
I like the black and white. Either way, it's an interesting image for sure.

  10. I have to go with the majority. The b&w photo enhances the harsh feeling of the photo. Rotting wood, abandoned slimy cart, lack of color - it all goes together quite nicely!

  11. I like the vibrancy of the colour in the middle one.

  12. I would go B&W, but slightly less contrast.

  13. I think I like the original, due to the fact that it's "dullness" truly reminds me of a day near the Oregon Coast. However, the others are so interesting!
