Butterfly...finally!

Butterfly

I have been trying to get a good photo of a butterfly for years! Last weekend I went out to the Butterfly Pavilian in Elkton Oregon and found this beautiful Monarch flitting around in the garden. I followed her around snapping shot after shot while trying to stay out of view of a wedding that was taking place a few rows of flowers over.

Isn't she beautiful? I was amazed that her body has the exact same markings as the row of dots on the outside of her wings. Ralph Lauren couldn't have dressed her any better.

  10. That is a great shot. Butterflies are not always considerate of photographers - don't they always decide to move just as you go to snap the photo!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  11. We don't have as many Monarchs this year but the ones we do have do not perch long on anything. I did get some shots and noticed the wings are a bit tattered. Your's looks perfect.

  16. Very nice indeed. I was not able to get a monarch today, only a Painted lady. I love butterflies, but they are amazingly quick, aren't they?

  17. Congratulations Faye on a difficult job done well! This shot is about as good as it gets!

Its not easy shooting butterflies but the rewards are worth it. Even with the 400mm many times just as I get the shot set up the butterfly decides that a distant flower is better than the one its on and away it goes dancing through the air.
