King Of The Dock

Astoria Oregon has an abundance of sea lions. On a recent trip I watched a game of King Of The Dock.

This sea lion was enjoying a sunny spot on the dock....

Sea Lion 1 - King of the dock

When this guy decided he wanted the same sunny spot....

Sea Lion 2 - claiming his place on the dock

A noisy discussion ensued (without waking the sleeping neighbors) ....

Sea Lion 3 - the fight begins

with the new comer prevailing....

Sea Lion 4 - the fight ends

and becoming the new King Of The Dock....

Sea Lion 5 - new king of the dock

.... and the rest of the gang slept on.

Sea Lion 5 - and the gang sleeps on

  1. Faye: I guess that dock is not used by humans. They look pretty mean with sharp teeth.

  7. Wow! That certainly is a lot of seals! I like the way you captioned the photos, great action scenes with that little argument! Thanks for stopping by :)

  8. I have seen the same game at Pier 39 in San Francisco. So many seals that they broke down the docks and very few boats moor there any more.
I was curious about the tatoo numbers on the backs . It looks like some have been in one too many altercations.

  14. Excellent action shots Faye. Wildlife occasionally gives us a peak into their normal interactions and here you documented it well.

  15. What a great set of photos. Question though. With all of them on the dock, how o you get to your boat if it is on the other side of them?
